Look, I'm a cynical bastard. I'm not a joiner or a group-think type person. I played sports when I was in high school but I wouldn't even cheer at my own pep-rallies. In short, I don't join causes. In my last post, my advice was to turn off the TV, drink and listen to music, but in watching all this Haiti coverage, I must say, that's terrible advice. A country just off of the coast of our own has been utterly devastated. Some reports say that the death toll could total over half-a-million people. I don't even know how to comprehend that. The only catasrophe that even comes close to this one is the tsunami but some how I can't help but feel more connected to this - I guess because it's so damn close to home and maybe it reminds me of New Orleans in some way (although the damage in New Orleans was like a pothole compared to this).

UPDATE: It seems one of the most effective ways to donate is to text the word "haiti" to 90999. It will automatically make a $10 donation to the Red Cross that will be charged to your phone bill. Hilary Clinton mentioned this morning that they had raised 3 million so far (she said this on TV by the way, not to me personally).
