And The Oscar Goes To...

This Sunday is the Oscars, the one time of the year when we stop and realize what's most important in life, namely giving awards to people who get envied for a living. That said, I'm still going to throw my hat into the ring and give you my pick for best film of the year. For me, I'm happy as long at they pick the Cohen Brother's A Serious Man (which they won't because it's too deep and enigmatic) or The Hurt Locker because it's awesome! Seriously, if they pick the 250 million dollar James Cameron XF's wankathon that is Avatar, I will vomit until I'm as blue as those hippie aliens on Pandora.

What are your picks?

  3. Yea, I thought about making it the most racist but I don't know, The Blind Side seemed really bad. Precious was interesting. I am not sure it was actually racist since it depicted Black people in differnt lights. It did for sure bring the discussion of "welfare porn" to light, but my opinion of the film was that it was less for a White audience, and more for a Black audience. It was almost as though the director was saying, "can we talk about this???" That's my opinion. Anyone else?

"Up" was horrible. It drug, it was depressing, and I really didn't enjoy it at all. However, I loved "The Blind Side" and would watch it 5 more times! It was a rags to riches story that had similar qualities as "The Pursuit of Happiness." Racist or not, it was a great movie, and face it, racism is still alive and well in America. I vote for "The Blind Side."

  5. Um... are you saying that we should be celebrating the fact that racism is alive and well in America? I'm not sure I like where this blog post has taken us.

  6. NPR caught my attention about this morning about a film called, "China's Un-natural Disaster". It's about a school that crumbled to the ground and killed many school children. The film focuses on the Parents' struggle for answers from the Chinese Government. The film is being censored on Youtube, Television, radio.. all forms of media, once the title pops up on the internet, the Chinese Government removes it.. so without seeing the film, the nature and the substance of the film alone makes me want the two guys to win... Can't remember their names but I hope it will shed some light on this tragedy.
