New Smashing Pumpkins Album (for free!)

According to the man himself, Billy Corgan, the Smashing Pumpkins will be releasing a new album in October over the internet, for free. The album will feature forty-four new songs which will be released, get this, one at a time as they are created. Corgan says that it is a way for the fans to be a part of the album making process.

The album will be titled, Teargarden by Kaeidyscope, which is, according to Corgan, "Based on "The Fools Journey", as signified in the process of the Tarot. It is my intention to approach this by breaking down the journey of our life here into four phases as made by these different characters; the Child, the Fool, the Skeptic, and the mystic."

Er, thanks for clearing that up Billy. Pretentious blathering aside, I have to admit it's kind of a cool idea. Unfortunately I haven't heard a good Smashing Pumpkins song in about 10 years and with no D'arcy, Jimmy or James, it's a bit of a stretch to actually call this a Pumpkins' album. Still though, free music.

  1. Don't diss the Pumpkins Hare. Their contribution to music in the 90's was phenomenal. Their last couple albums have not been outstanding but I honestly believe that Billy has a couple amazing songs left in him. I saw them in two back to back concerts last year and they put on a great show and played a lot of new songs that I really liked. So much so that I went out and bought some albums I didn't already own. I think you need to take a little time today to listen to some Pumpkins and think about what you wrote Mister!

  2. Samantha,

I completely agree that the Pumpkins pretty much ruled the 90's. I single-handedly fought to make "Tonight, Tonight" the prom theme my senior year. Seriously, it was awesome! That said, one Billy Corgan and some other dudes/dudettes I've never heard of does not equal The Smashing Pumpkins. As soon the original members return (which is probably going to mean Corgan apologizing for his massive ego and not likely to happen) I will be all over that shit. I will indeed blast some Simease Dream today (definitely one of the top 10 albums of the 90's) and mourn the loss of anything worthy of listening to since Adore (and only a couple on that one). Hey, I'll download the free songs, I'm just not too hopeful of them being actually, you know, good. But I hope to eat my own words. Go Pumpkins!
